linkstar media

I’ve been selling ads to linkstar media for about 9 months now, earning anywhere from $60 to $300 per advert. Not too bad and certainly more than I’m getting from the other networks which pay based on clicks. I want to do a full breakdown and comparison of different advertising services like yahoo, google, linkstar, text link ads and perhaps a few smaller ones.

For now I’m still crunching the numbers and trying to make notes of the pros and cons of each one. My own personal experience shows that linkstar media is the best for me since it’s earning me the most but that might not be the same for everyone so I need to get feedback from readers and other advertisers.

I’m not sure on linkstars business model but I guess its based on brand exposure rather than raw traffic, similar to the billboards you see at train stations.. just getting the name out there. I usually take payment from them via Paypal but I believe they also offer moneybookers which is alright I guess if you’re based in far away countries.

So if you’re a webmaster who also sells advertising please send me a mail and when I have correlated all the data, i’ll update this post!

Trigger Happy

Having a camera phone has major advantages and disadvantages.  Some people put it to misuse like the perverts on the train.  If there were camwh*r*s when the digital camera came into being, the numbers must have tripled when camera phones came out.  Every little detail is an excuse to be immortalized in a photo.

It is handy in emergency situations like a car accident and you need a camera pronto for the insurance claim.  Or when you see a crooked cop taking a handful of not-so-legit fees.  Better yet, use it against the pervert who exposes himself in the bus.  Take a picture and post it online.  Hahaha.

This is where the great debate arises.  If a voyeur takes a photo, the victim has rights but when the victim takes a photo of her ‘assailants’ they too have rights hence the photos cannot be posted online.

Trash To Cash

You will be surprised at how much money you can make off your garbage.

Technology is not so evil after all.  You can now take your properly segregated trash to your local recycler [if you have one] and they will be forever thankful and give you a monetary reward.  Who knew that polyethylene terephthalate or PET in layman’s terms can be used to make other things than tumblers?  We now have thermal jackets made with a combination of PET and other natural fabrics.  PET is broken down to what they call as flakes and use them for polyester which are generally used for sheets [pillow cases, blankets] and rugs.

Not only did you do your part in saving the environment and giving a bit to sustainable living, you made some cash for yourself.  Not bad.

Digital Voice Recorders

Voice recording has come a long way.  In the ancient times, you have it as a separate device that I would like to call as mobile boombox because it is gigantic it reminds me of a boombox.  It comes with a proportionate microphone and uses a cassette tape.  Then it got smaller when they released the walkman with recording capabilities minus the big mic.

We only used to see recorders as tiny as a fountain pen in James Bond or Mission: Impossible movies.  They have made voice recorders that now use memory cards.  Some have internal memory that can be compared to your mp3 player.  Bye bye to bulky, heavy boxes.  You can now quote people with evidence in your puny voice recorder.

Texting Is A Big Pain On The Big Finger

If only you can make and take calls all day instead of crunching digits.  Most of the time I find text messaging cumbersome and tedious.  I am quite obsessive with my grammar and spelling, I can never bring myself to use those awful shortcuts.  A simple hello will take me twice if not thrice as long than the average texter.  This gets more tedious if you have a skanky phone without a full qwerty keypad.

I wonder when we can have such a thing as voice texting where you just dictate your message to the phone and it can type it out in a sms for you.  That will save me time, effort, and fingertips.  I am truly scared that my fingertips will be at least half an inch shorter in three months.

King of Convenience

Flashback: to steam vegetables, you have to thaw them out if they came from the freezer, then you boil gallons of water in a pot that would often be too heavy you think either your hands will slip if not your feet or you carry it with so much motion the water might just splash on your face.

Ziplocs are not for storage anymore.  They now have specialty bags where you can simply stuff your vegetables in and stick it in the microwave for a couple of minutes and viola!  In ten minutes, you have a meal!  You can do this with both fresh and frozen vegetables.  No need to thaw it out.  No more excuses for getting fast food.  Fast food is right in your kitchen.

Contact Lenses

I started wearing glasses when I was ten.  It felt really heavy on my small face and would hurt the bridge of my nose and my ears.  No matter how many times I have them adjusted or changed, nothing seems to be of any improvement.  Two years later I was finally allowed to wear contact lenses.

Who would have known that there are about ten thousand kinds of contact lenses out there.  There is the rigid contact lenses which is made of hard plastic and felt like hard plastic on the eye as well.  If you are unlucky enough, the eye condition you might have can require this type because it maintains its shape though it takes a little bit of getting used to.

There is also the soft contact lenses which are more available commercially than rigid contact lenses.  They come in several forms of tints depending on its purpose from handling, to eye color enhancement to filtering a certain amount of light.  There are contact lenses that can be worn overnight, others you do not have to take out for two months!

Innovations in ophthalmology have come a long way.  I am hoping that soon laser eye surgery will be as indiscriminating.
